About Me
Professional by day, hippie chick at heart, 42 going on 18. Born in the Year of the Dragon, happily single mom of one amazing and beautiful son, college-educated, generally curmudgeonly, secure, not looking for relationship, eager to learn new stuff and explore the world, new cast member of the Louisiana Renaissaince Festival. Given name means "One of Light". Regular flosser. Doesn't bite nails.
Music
I like most music. I'm partial to classical (all periods, and yes, I play), alternative, classic rock, blues, zydeco, any kind of ethnic or cultural music (think NPR), jazz, blues, swing, bluegrass, trance/rave music... you name it. Some favorites are anything by Pink Floyd, Beatles, Dr. John, Sonny Landreth, Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Nine Inch Nails (great workout music), Incubus, Aerosmith, Kid Rock, White Stripes, Cake, the Allmans, and Korn.
Movies
Too many to name.. American Beauty, Name of the Rose, all the M.Night Shyamalan movies, Dogma, Dead Man Walking, the Hannibal movies, all the epic fantasies like the Harry Potters, The Chronicles of Narnia, and the Ring Trilogy, Joe Dirt, Clerks, Harold and Maude, Dickie Roberts: Child Actor, Seven Years in Tibet, House of Flying Daggers, Falling Down,Friday, Fried Green Tomatoes and Steel Magnolias, anything Monty Python (Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!) Bull Durham, and most of Johnny Depp's stuff. I enjoyed Running with Scissors. My recent favorite is Pan's Labyrinth. I also like film noir, dark comedies, and similar dark movies that leave you disturbed and pondering.
TV
I don't watch much TV. I will watch Two and a Half Men on Monday nights, though. I do like the History Channel and National Geographic. I like the forensics shows on Court TV and Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. Otherwise, I'm a history and news junkie.
Books
Again, too numerous to mention.. my tastes are pretty eclectic. I love to read, both fiction and non-fiction. I've read most of Stephen King, but I also loved Sam Harris' The End of Faith and some of Ken Wilber's work; very provocative stuff. I have a whole room just for books. I should put all my books in it sometime.
Likes
Silliness and intense discussions, wicked good fun and people with infectious laughs! Living simply but fully. Oh,and CATS. Can you tell I like CATS? If you don't know, I LIKE CATS. Mostly I like lying on the sofa and reading or watching movies, snacking, and taking naps. Hey, I'm not romantic. Hedonism rocks.
Dislikes
Overbearing people, bad manners, unkindness and cruelty, ignorance and superstition, and dishonesty. People who immediately think "dog" at any mention of pets. Not necessarily in that order, either.
Hobbies
Reading, boating, visiting historical sites, wildlife rehab, pet care, and, of course, Ren fests. Practicing Random Acts of Cattiness. Challenging hypocrisy and ignorance (especially my own), exploring the world around me and my spiritual beliefs. Drumming circles, Civil War battle reenactments, reading, cultural festivals, eating out, spending time on the river, and swimming. Hanging out at coffee shops. Hanging out at bookstores. Annoying people with movie quotes. Casting withering glances at people with chewing gum and clicky pens.
Vices
I probably drink too much coffee. I sometimes yell in traffic. Otherwise, I love snacks and catnaps.
Virtues
I'm a cool mom and I'm kind to animals. Other than that, I'll have to think about that one and get back to you.
Heroes
People who think for themselves, question their beliefs regularly, and aren't afraid to put their necks on the line for what is right.
